How did you get into writing?I always loved writing at school, but never thought I was good enough. In 2006 I was in a serious car crash, and it was a turning point for me. I started writing, and signed up for a creative writing course. In 2008 I sold my first story to My Weekly, and have never looked back since.
Why did you choose to write in this genre?I write psychological crime thrillers because that has always been my favourite genre to read. I love crime fiction too.
Who are some of your favourite authors?Agatha Christie, Karen Clarke, Lisa Jewell, Louise Jensen, D. E White, Keri Bevis, Diane Setterfield, David Nicholls, Vikki Patis, C L Taylor, Phoebe Morgan, and Catherine Ryan Howard . . . the list is endless. There are SO many brilliant writers out there; I could be here all day!
Are you a plotter or a pantser?I used to be a pantser through and through – tending to let the characters lead the way, but with every book I write, I tend to plot more and more in advance.
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?Firstly, be proud of your achievements. There will always be another level to aim for, and it’s good to have ambition, but remember to stop and look at what you’ve achieved – from finishing your first story or novel, or being brave enough to send your work out there to being published.
Secondly, you will never please everyone however hard you try – you will get rejections and low reviews – the trick is to try not to let this get you down (It’s hard at times, I know)
And thirdly, keep writing!
Finally, what are you currently working on?I’m currently working on my edits for my 5th psychological crime thriller, and my 2nd psychological suspense written with my co-writer Karen Clarke.
